Sorosoro 2008Installation in the former kiosk room
Nishiaizu International Art Village
For this installation Katrin Paul used one room of an old wooden schoolhouse. The room is almost empty, only a table and a chair are in the middle. Books are placed on the table. Slowly but steadily, ink is dripping from the ceiling onto the books and the table. Over the period of the exhibition the ink will flow from the table onto the floor and create a black but reflective puddle of ink. Also the ceiling will absorb some of the ink and create a pattern. With this work Katrin Paul aims to show the transitoriness and fleetingness of knowledge and history. The medium used to preserve our knowledge can always at the same time be the one to destroy it. But through destruction also something new of subliminal beauty might emerge.

西会津国際芸術村の空き室でのインスタレーション（空間アート）
カトリン・パウルは、このインスタレーションのために古い木造校舎の一室を使っている。
その部屋には中央に机と椅子があるだけだ。
この机の上には本が置いてあり、本と机の上に天井からインクがゆっくりと、絶え間なく、
ぽたぽた落ちている。
作品展の間、インクは机から床にも流れ落ち、黒々と光る水溜まりを作っていく。
また、天井にはインクがにじんで、なにか模様ができていくであろう。
私はこの作品で、知識と歴史のはかなさを見せたいと思っている。
私たちの知識を維持するための手段は、同時にそれを破壊するものになりえる。
しかし、破壊によって、まだ気づかないけれども何か美しいものが新しく生まれてくるかもしれない。
