10 Centenarians circle I 凛と 2008 I 09
Inspired by Nishiaizu's City slogan "Let's challenge 100!" Katrin Paul used her short stay (6 months) in Nishiaizu Art Village to make a photographic portrait of 100-year-old inhabitants of Nishiaizu.
As a photographer, one of the most fascinating points for Katrin Paul
are the eyes - eyes which have seen the world for 100 years. The
portraits Katrin Paul created are close close-ups of the face with the
main focus on the eyes. In these eyes we might get a glance of the
photographer or even of ourselves.

西会津町のスローガンである｢百歳への挑戦｣に刺激を受けて、私は西会津国際芸術村での6カ月の滞在期間に、西会津町に住む百歳前後の何人かの肖像写真を撮りました。写真家として、私を惹きつける１番のポイントは｢目｣です。100年間のできごとを見つめてきた「目」！
私が創った肖像写真は、｢目｣に焦点を当て、顔を最大限にクローズアップしました。そして、この目の中に私たちがちらっと見えるかもしれません。
※今回のシリーズは、私の初期の作品群「日本の社会における女性のイメージ」 （東京と沖縄で成し遂げた、何枚かで構成した女性の肖像写真）にもつながっています。
